The department is headed by the principle land officer, it has overall responsibility for the following functions in the commission, namely:

• Initiate actions and ensure that all Government land is titled.
• Protect Government lands from unauthorized use by following the regulations by opening boundaries, titling and encouraging MDAs to fence off their land;
• Identify, compile, update and manage an inventory of all Government land and developments.
• Regularly monitor the use and developments on Government land through quarterly planned inspections and before renewal of leases;
